Acer A515-46-R3UB Review And Specification

Acer A515-46-R3UB Review And Specification

The Acer Aspire 5 A515-46-R14K, which was this model's predecessor, has been topping bestseller charts for months, so if the Acer A515-46-R3UB appears familiar, it most likely is. It's simple to comprehend why. This AMD Ryzen 3-powered Acer Aspire 5 has a far lower price than most of its rivals and offers a tempting feature set, including a Full HD 15.6-inch display, a relatively slim chassis, and Windows 11 Home (albeit in S Mode). The end result is reliable performance for routine computer operations.

We never anticipated a few niceties like a backlit keyboard and a fingerprint reader for a laptop that costs less than $400. However, it appears that Acer had to provide more than you were paying for. In actuality, you don't often find a Full HD (1920 by 1080) screen at this price range. These are all valuable features that distinguish this laptop as a standout option for the home office or education.

Design and Features

The AMD version of the Aspire 5, like nearly all other laptops in Acer's Aspire 5 line, feels lighter and smaller than it actually is. Given its 14.3 by 9.9-inch footprint and weight of under 4 pounds, the Aspire A515-46-R3UB nevertheless manages to feel thin.

The laptop has a sleek appearance thanks to its tapered casing and beautiful aluminum lid. When the lid is opened, a 15.6-inch display with minimal left and right bezels, an Aspire logo along the laptop hinge, and a silver chassis with a black keyboard are all visible.

Acer A515-46-R3UB Design

The port selection is fairly good for a low-cost system, but there is at least one unexpected absence. A Gigabit ethernet port, a full HDMI port, two USB 3.0 ports, and a single USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port are all located on the left side of the device. Given the Aspire's confined 128GB solid-state drive, you'll need these USB connections to attach external storage devices.

There is a combo audio jack and a USB 2.0 Type-A port on the right side. Surprisingly, there isn't a built-in memory card reader, so you have to use a USB adaptor to access memory cards from your Android phone or digital camera.

This Acer Aspire 5's 15.6-inch display is flawless and is rated at 267 nits. Bright enough for daily productivity and leisure is the Full HD (1920 x 1080). Naturally, we've seen laptops with displays that are much brighter (around 300 nits and higher), but anything above 250 nits is excellent for a cheap machine like this. Surprisingly, the Aspire 5 with a Core i7 has a much darker screen while being roughly $200 more expensive.

The display's 1080p quality, which is excellent for a screen this size, will also be a hit with you. Its outstanding viewing angles are delivered by IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, making it simple to collaborate or share the screen with a colleague.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The Aspire 5 range from Acer boasts plush keyboards and a few unique added features at a low price. The Acer A515-46-R3UB, the product under review, includes a broad, backlit keyboard and a compact, 10-key numeric keypad. Each keystroke provides gratifying feedback, and typing on each feels comfortable.

However, compared to other productivity-focused laptops we've evaluated, key travel is a tad shallow. The lighting feature and the comfortable typing experience still matter a lot for a low-cost machine.

A similarly roomy trackpad is located below the keyboard. It is snappy and feels smooth, and it does a nice job of blocking accidental palm swipes while you type. However, the Aspire 5's trackpad model has a built-in fingerprint reader.

The audio quality is another aspect worth highlighting. Although a little thin, the sound quality is good for a cheap laptop, with respectable amounts of detail and bass. The Aspire 5's speakers aren't the best available, but we never set unrealistic expectations when it comes to speaker quality on a mainstream laptop priced around $1,000.

 A Battery's Life

Acer estimates the 48Wh 3-cell Li-ion battery within the Ace Aspire 5 to provide 10 hours of battery life. The laptop lasts 7 hours 53 minutes while continuously browsing the web via Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness, which isn't terrible for a cheap laptop.
