Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-32DK Review And Specification

Acer A515-46-R3UB Review And Specification

For a few years now, the Acer Aspire 5 has been one of our best-rated laptops and has taken the top spot on our list of the best cheap laptops. The 2020 Aspire 5 is currently one of the Best Laptops Under $500, a significant market that the laptop currently leads. In late 2021, Acer released the updated Aspire 5 A515-56-32DK, which features 11th-generation Intel Core CPUs and other significant modifications for a cheap notebook, chief among them being the IPS display.

Today's review device is the Aspire 5 A515-56-32DK, an entry-level model featuring a 128GB PCIe solid-state drive (SSD), 4GB of RAM, a Core i3-1115G4 CPU, and a 15.6-inch Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS display. This Aspire 5 configuration's specs sheet is identical to the Acer Chromebook Spin that we previously examined, with the exception that the latter model's LCD display has been replaced with an IPS panel.

Can Acer, with its newest Aspire 5 model, continue to preserve its flawless record?

An IPS Display, Elegant Style

Acer Aspire 5 A515-46-R3UB Keyboard

For a low-cost 15-inch laptop, the Aspire 5 weighs surprisingly little—just over 4 pounds. The majority of inexpensive 15-inch laptops are characterized by their flimsy construction and bulky plastic components. The silver and black color palette of the Aspire 5 is subtle but effective.

It should come as no surprise that the laptop's body is made of plastic, as it not only reduces weight but also highlights its low cost. Even if this laptop isn't especially slim, Acer has nevertheless managed to include a respectable assortment of connectors, such as full-size USB ports, HDMI, Ethernet, and a single USB-C.

Again, it feels a little dated because the 15.6-inch screen is surrounded by heavy bezels despite its respectable size. Super-thin bezels have been seen on more costly Ultrabooks; in particular, the NanoEdge display on the Asus ZenBook S13 and the InfinityEdge display on the Dell XPS 13 look amazing, but they cost a lot more.

For a low-cost laptop, the 1080p resolution is adequate, but it doesn't have the same visual appeal as more expensive laptops with higher-resolution screens, like the MacBook Air. This also implies that the screen isn't the brightest or most brilliant one we've seen; instead, it has a yellow tint that highlights the laptop's low price once more.

The less-than-expensive laptops with tactile keyboards provide a more pleasurable typing experience, although the non-backlit keyboard feels a little cheap and has less travel.

Not only does a backlit keyboard look good on gaming laptops, but it also makes it easier to see the keys you're pressing in low light. This implies that for those who are not accustomed to touch typing, using the Acer Aspire 5 at night can be challenging.

A Battery's Life

With the A515-56-32DK, Acer claims 8.5 hours of battery life; however, in the benchmark test, it only lasts a few minutes shorter. The lower-power processor allows for seven hours and fifty-five minutes of battery life when looping a 1080p video.

Although there are some ways to extend the battery life, such limiting the number of apps you use at once and lowering the screen's brightness, you'll have to take a chance on getting enough use out of it to last through an entire workday.
