Asus ROG Flow Z13 GZ301ZC-PS73 Review And Specification

Asus ROG Flow Z13 GZ301ZC-PS73 Review And Specification

The majority of gaming PCs bearing the Asus ROG trademark are high-end models, but occasionally the manufacturer overreaches with more advanced features and hardware. They provide the best value for the money and have performance comparable to that of Dell's Alienware gaming laptop lineup. With the release of the Asus ROG Flow Z13, the business is launching a full-scale assault directly at the doorstep of the Apple iPad Air, rather than competing with the other heavyweights in the gaming laptop market.

We praised the Apple iPad Pro for its quick M1-powered performance and sleek, stylish design when we reviewed it earlier this year. Although it seems like a good piece of equipment, Asus is planning something even better. The ROG Flow Z13 (GZ301ZC-PS73) isn't just a portable gadget; its build and design make it one of the greatest options for a portable gaming laptop.

It seems more expensive than most of its rivals because to its strong chassis and aluminum alloy build. Additionally, the entire laptop weighs only about 1.2 kg when the keyboard is folded, making it incredibly portable for daily commuting. Additionally, it has a 170 degree kickstand that lets you rest the laptop flat, which is useful for artistic applications like painting and photo editing. Additionally, the RGB-lit back of the Asus ROG Flow Z13 gives you a peek at a portion of its components.

The Asus ROG Flow Z13 comes with practically all the accessories you could possibly need, which only sweetens the deal. Included in the box are a carry case for the laptop, a pen, and an RGB detachable keyboard. All of those are free of charge. The trackpad is very quick, and the keyboard has chicklet-style keys that are really comfortable to type on. Additionally, the product's superior quality is validated by its rubberized texture.

The laptop's internal hardware is comparable to that of the majority of other gaming laptops in this price range. The RTX 3050 series of graphics cards and the most recent 12th generation Intel Core CPUs are included in the Asus ROG Flow Z13. A 12th generation Intel Core i7-12700H CPU, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, 512GB SSD, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU are included in our review unit, the GZ301ZC-PS73 variant.

For even better gaming performance, you can swap out the RTX 3050 here for a mobile RTX 3080 GPU with the XG Mobile external graphics adapter, which is offered separately. Plus, the tablet is just as ready for travel. The eGPU offers performance comparable to that of a high-end gaming laptop, and the design is excellent, but the total cost of those two components will put most of us off.

Once more, the idea doesn't automatically increase your productivity or gaming (after all, this is a tablet at heart); several thin and light gaming laptops that mix portability and power are available for far less money. One such gadget is the ROG Zephyrus G14 from Asus, which offers more battery life and unrestricted power in a tiny, portable, and svelte design. It is still our Editor's Choice for ultraportable gaming laptops, and we prefer it over the Asus ROG Flow Z13 in terms of both value and convenience.

Design

Asus has emerged in recent years as a leader in custom gaming setups. The cutting-edge Asus ROG Flow X13, a 2-in-1 gaming tablet with an optional RTX 3080 external GPU, was announced in 2021. With the tablet form factor, Asus took things a step further in 2022, producing a genuine gaming tablet together with an attachable folio keyboard.

In addition to its compact design, the tablet's peek-a-boo window on the rear is a great feature. The ROG Flow Z13's circuitry is partially visible, showcasing it in all its gaming splendor. Additionally, the RGB lighting creates a stunning revolving rainbow of colors against the tiny electronic components.

Asus ROG Flow Z13 GZ301ZC-PS73 Keyboard

The Asus GZ301ZC-PS73 is the only place with RGB lighting outside of the detachable folio keyboard, which will definitely appeal to many minimalists. The laptop has a kickstand that can assist in keeping it facing up, as was previously indicated. Because of its sturdy hinges, you don't have to be concerned that the tablet may collapse on its back if you give it the least prod. Additionally, a micro-SD slot is tucked away directly beneath the kickstand.

The Asus ROG Flow X13 has a full-size USB port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Type-C port for data transfer and charging, and the ROG XG Mobile interface in spite of its tiny form factor. Additionally, the tablet supports Dolby Atmos and has dual speakers on either side. When viewing TV series and movies, the speakers offer a fully immersive entertainment experience. The power button supports Windows Hello sign-in and features an embedded fingerprint scanner.

All in all, the ROG Flow Z13's distinctive design is quite endearing. This tablet/laptop computer is portable, stylish, small, and has strong internal components.

Battery Life

The Asus ROG Flow Z13's battery life is comparable to that of other portable gaming laptops. With graphics turned up to full, the laptop lasts slightly more than an hour when gaming on battery power. The battery life somewhat increases if you set the quality to extremely high and decrease the resolution.

This laptop is more of a hybrid device that combines productivity and games. Therefore, over five hours of usage time would be available to anyone who wishes to work while flying. Things improve significantly if the brightness is decreased. By using the Asus Armoury app to turn off the MUX Switch, you may further extend its battery life.
