Asus ROG Strix G15 (G513QR-AS98) Review And Specification

Asus ROG Strix G15 (G513QR-AS98) Review And Specification

The G513QR-AS98 is the most recent model in the Asus ROG Strix G15 brand of gaming laptops, which includes a range of options from entry-level machines to obscenely powerful machines. The device we're reviewing falls within the high-end category because it launched with the most recent high-end Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card in addition to Ryzen 5000 CPUs.

Therefore, the G513QR-AS98 gaming laptop has a lot of responsibility because it deviates from the hardware we generally find in gaming laptops, especially ones in its price category. A laptop that costs roughly $2,000 is considered to be quite expensive, and it is priced between the Razer Blade and Asus' Zephyrus G15, two of the greatest gaming laptops available today.

And generally speaking, the ROG Strix G15 G513Q holds its own against rivals. It has some respectable performance potential, and the AMD Ryzen R9-5900HX processor—which can be overclocked—is simply amazing.  This laptop will be useful to competitive gamers as well because it boasts a per-key RGB keyboard and a 300Hz 1080p display. Are these features enough to elevate the Asus ROG Strix G14 to the top of the gaming laptop heap?

Design and Keyboard

  • Exterior with attractive RGB lighting
  • excellent keyboard caliber
  • Exceptional features, but no webcam

The look and keyboard of the ROG Strix G15 G513QR won't surprise you if you're familiar with previous Asus gaming laptops. Large portions of the base and lid feature a stunning ROG pattern, and it is made of dark grey plastic. The ROG logo is displayed on a black panel on the hinge's one end. There are further Strix G15 variations with red or gray plates.

There are several RGB LEDs, as usual with gaming laptops. The laptop's base is surrounded by a band of lights, and the keyboard includes RGB illumination for each individual key. All of these are programmable and have the ability to sync with other Asus devices.

Asus ROG Strix G15 (G513QR-AS98) Keyboard

Sadly, the Asus G513QR-AS98 makes some concessions that, although they may not necessarily affect performance, keep it from being the finest in its class. For instance, the plastic beneath the keyboard and at the base of the display has a little bit more flex than the metal body of the Razer 15, despite not being weak. The Razer Blade is lighter and smaller than the ROG Strix G15 (5.07 pounds, 1.07 inches thick), which weighs 3.92 pounds and is 0.66 pounds lighter.

Three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one USB 3.2 Type-C with DisplayPort 1.4 (with power delivery), one HDMI 2.0b (up to 60Hz), and a Gigabit Ethernet connector are among the G15's available ports. Bluetooth 5.1 and dual-band Wi-Fi 6 provide wireless connectivity.

The G15 also falls short in other areas because it lacks an integrated webcam, fingerprint reader, or card reader. However, in all honesty, I don't think you'll miss these features; after all, laptops with mediocre webcams and fingerprint readers aren't necessary.

Despite lacking a number pad, the keyboard and trackpad are superb. They have a solid layout, an additional column of media keys, and extra buttons for controlling the volume and opening the Asus Armory Crate app. Two shallow and quick buttons can be found on the trackpad, which is pleasantly spacious and accurate. However, a USB gaming mouse like the Logitech G Pro is always preferable.

Screen – Simply great at 300Hz

  • With a fantastic 300Hz refresh rate, this monitor is perfect for gaming.
  • Colors are true to life.
  • Although the Asus provides good contrast, it may be improved.

The 15.6-inch IPS panel display on the Asus ROG Strix G15 G513 has a 1080p resolution, a 3ms response time, and a 300Hz refresh rate. Even though it doesn't support Nvidia G-Sync, it's still excellent for gaming because the refresh rate is more than sufficient for fast-paced motion games. If you enjoy eSports, you'll find the refresh rate helpful when playing some of the busiest games.

The screen's maximum brightness, which is 312 nits, is just adequate for indoor use. However, its black point of 0.27 nits is a little too high in my opinion. These numbers add up to a contrast ratio of 1155:1, which is much higher than the Razer Blade and a positive indicator for an IPS display. Games appear vibrant and powerful with a decent contrast ratio. A punchier image will undoubtedly be delivered by devices with greater contrast IPS displays, which are common.

Additionally, I'd advise you to look elsewhere if you need a display for work. Other panels, such the MSI GE66 Raider (11UH-227), provide greater resolutions and comparable gaming performance, but this screen cannot handle the Adobe RGB or DCI-P3 color gamuts.

A Battery's Life

  • average game longevity
  • In terms of work and media viewing, the Asus is far superior.

Expect the ROG Strix G15 G513 battery to last under three hours if you plan to play games while using it, and utilizing the battery will result in lower graphics performance. You'll be more comfortable playing video games while plugged in.

On the other hand, while this laptop's battery life might not be sufficient for prolonged gaming sessions away from the power source, it can easily handle daily business duties for up to half a day. For productivity tasks, it lasts 7 hours 34 minutes with the screen brightness decreased and can handle video brightness at half brightness for an additional two hours.
