Asus TUF Gaming F15 FX506LH-AS51 Review And Specification

With the newest hardware, including the 12th generation Intel CPU and Nvidia RTX 30 Series graphics, together with a 15.6-inch screen that offers full 1440p resolution and a refresh rate of 165 Hz, the Asus TUF Gaming F15 has been updated for 2022.

The pricing is reasonable considering the state-of-the-art components that are crammed inside, which makes it an excellent option for moderate gamers and video creators.

Whatever the allure, spending more than $1,000 on a laptop is a bit excessive if you're buying on a tight budget. The Asus TUF gaming machine we're examining, the FX506LH-AS51, is a bargain productivity workhorse that costs nearly half as much as the Asus TUF FX507ZM-ES74. It has a CPU and GPU from an earlier generation, but it still packs a punch when it comes to gaming performance.

However, in order to make this laptop function at its low cost, a few sacrifices are necessary. The 10th generation CPU and an Nvidia GTX graphics card will stand out the most. This isn't the first gaming laptop we've seen that makes this sacrifice; the Acer AN515-55-53E5 from 2021, which is still one of our favorites, also made this choice. It still has value today just as it did back then.

Design

The 2022 TUF F15 has a fresh appearance that departs from the gamer-centric design that has blighted the gaming industry as a whole in recent years. Despite being advertised as a gaming laptop, this model strikes a good balance with a backlit keyboard that is pleasant to type on and solid white WASD buttons for fluid gameplay.

It's not as good as the keyboard on my MacBook Air, but it's still good enough for laptop gaming. The trackpad is likewise reasonably sized and snappy, although you will need to use the two physical buttons at the bottom because it does not feature capacitive touch. If you plan to drag and drop items on the screen, you can change it in the settings.

Aside from the keyboard, the laptop's 1080p IPS display and the 144Hz refresh rate that makes up for the lack of color depth make it a good match for the internal components. The screen isn't bright enough for pleasant viewing, although using the wall adapter slightly improves things. With HDMI extending your screen estate, that's where the I/O ports come in handy.

There is a USB 2.0, two USB 3.2, a USB 3.2 Type-C that supports DisplayPort (G-Sync), a.5mm audio jack, and an HDMI 2.0b for communication. Bluetooth 5.2 (dual-band) and Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) provide wireless communication.
