MSI GV15 11SC-633 Review And Specification

With the MSI GV15 11SC-633, it appears that MSI is at last entering the low-cost laptop market with certain designs that are reasonably priced and yet packed with the greatest technology available without compromising performance too much. The end product is a stylish 15-inch laptop that can do mid-level productivity tasks and 1080p gaming without breaking the wallet.

Unlike in the past when a budget gaming laptop meant an ugly-looking behemoth with blazing gaming power, the MSI G15 gaming laptop delivers just enough power in an inconspicuous yet nice-looking form. It has an 11th generation Intel Core i5-11400H CPU, a GTX 1650 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage under the hood—just enough power to do productivity activities and modern games at 1080p.

The MSI 11SC-633 is not the only gaming device under $1,000, though. With an Intel Core i5-11400H, RTX 3050 Ti, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of SSD storage, the MSI GF63 11C-263 boasts even greater hardware than the Asus TUF Dash 15 (2022), which tops out with a 12th generation Core i7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.

While the gaming performance of these two options is progressively greater, the cost is also more. Under those circumstances, the MSI GV15 11SC-633 appears to be an excellent option that should be at the top of your list for anyone on a tight budget.

Design 

The MSI GV15 11SC-633 appears similar to most other MSI gaming laptops due to its 1.6-inch screen and quite minimal bezels. Although the keyboard backlighting is fixed red, MSI didn't try to skimp on anything else and included almost everything you'd expect from a gaming laptop.

Despite being primarily made of plastic with a machined metal backing for the screen, the chassis seems more sturdy than I would have thought for a laptop at this price range, and it is lighter than other gaming laptops in its class because it isn't entirely made of metal. It is sufficiently portable for daily commutes at 4.63 pounds and 18.5 x 3.5 x 13 inches, although it is still heavier than the most recent generation of gaming ultraportables, such as the Razer Blade 14 and the Asus Zephyrus 14.

Although this keyboard is very ordinary, it is comfortable to use for both typing and gaming because the keys have good travel and don't feel mushy. It goes without saying that the laptop has some flex at the middle of the keyboard when pressed firmly because of the plastic frame, but you probably won't notice this when using it regularly. Although the trackpad is good and quick, I wish it had a little more room given the amount of space beneath the keyboard.

I can say that the screen is fairly impressive considering the asking price: MSI provides a 1080p IPS-level panel with good color reproduction and a good maximum brightness. The overall sharpness is excellent, even though the blacks aren't as clear as those on more costly laptops like the Alienware m15 R7. With its 144Hz frame rate and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU, our review unit is ideal for esports.

At last, it has a respectable selection of connectors, such as three USB 3.2 Gen 1, one USB Type-C, Ethernet, and a combo headphone/mic. It also has a respectable 720p webcam, speakers, and a microphone that work well for video calls, all of which suit the needs of a laptop intended for both business and enjoyment.

Battery Life

Although the MSI GV15 11SC-633's 52.4Whr battery has slightly greater capacity than earlier models, it is still not long enough for a full day's use. A larger battery would not fit into the relatively thin chassis, and although you would think that lower-end technology would require less power, the MSI GV15 can only run on 50% brightness for up to 5 hours.

That's not bad, but it's also not really noteworthy. The MSI 11SC-633 can run most common tasks, like as web browsing, for four to five hours, but even in power-efficient mode, it can't run most games for more than two hours. Additionally, compared to most laptops, it takes longer to charge fully, but if you're the "overnight" type of user, that shouldn't be an issue. It is essentially intended to be used for gaming while plugged into a wall outlet, just like the majority of other gaming laptops.
