Design

The Acer SFX14-42G-R607 resembles other Acer Swift laptops in appearance, which is actually to its advantage. You won't feel awkward pulling it out of your backpack at a coffee shop because it keeps things understated, basic, but not unattractive. When using a laptop at a coffee shop, appearances do important.

The Acer Swift X is a bog-standard laptop design from 2021, measuring just 0.7 inches (17.9mm) thick and weighing 3.06 pounds (1.39kg), yet it's still small enough to fit in your bag for your daily commute.

Once more, despite the Swift X's very basic design, the chassis and hinges are incredibly strong and durable. There is no flex anywhere on the aluminum chassis, which feels high-end and resembles the silver hue of the Apple MacBook Pro 13. Even the display is really sturdy, so if it happens to fall off your lap, you shouldn't be concerned about it giving in.

Ports

Even by today's standards, the Acer Swift X's normal thickness does provide a good range of ports. There is an HDMI port, a USB-A and USB-C charging port, and a dedicated charging port on the left side.

A USB-A, a Kensington Lock connector, and a combination 3.5mm audio jack are located on the right. We're glad that the Swift X has standard ports, even though the majority of laptops are removing larger ports. We're sad that there isn't an SD card included, though, as Acer is marketing the Swift X to creative professionals and students. The right side of the laptop has enough space.

Display

The 14-inch 1080p display on the Acer Swift X boasts a brightness of 300 nits and a color gamut coverage of 100% of sRGB. Although we are happy with it as is, creative work may benefit more from a display that is more vibrant or high-resolution.

But this laptop is more than adequate for using at the office, doing homework, or sending a few emails. There are enough speakers for a brief chat without having to dig through your headphones, but the sound output is rather low and won't fill a room.

Touchpad & Keyboard

Long typing sessions will benefit greatly from this keyboard, which is also very pleasant considering its cost. It travels nicely; each key is deep, so when you press it, your fingers won't suffer. While many laptops cut corners when it comes to keyboard comfort, the Acer Swift X offers the much-needed luxury.

There is a large, quick-to-respond touchpad beneath the keyboard that may be swiped and touched. There are many more features as well, such as an inbuilt fingerprint scanner or a Windows Hello camera for facial recognition.
